Develop a business plan. Follow it, and stop chasing the “next big thing” or shiny object. Stick to what your original plans are, and don’t deviate away from it. It’s easy to get sidetracked online, if you do, just go back to what you were doing as soon as possible. The next big shiny thing will almost always turn out to be rubbish a scam or something even worse. You have taken the trouble to make a business plan so stick with it. Persistence pays off in the end.
Be Everywhere, Be Consistent, Be Available
Be everywhere you can be online. Post your articles everywhere possible. Get yourself noticed by interacting everywhere in forums, on social media, on your own website. Make your brand known. Comment on other people’s blogs and websites and invite them to return the gesture.
Be consistent. When your followers know that you produce a brand new article or video every Monday, or a value-rich blog post every Wednesday and have a free poll on Friday, keep it up. Readers like routine, so don’t change without giving them some prior warning.
Be available. If you really want to stand out from the competition, make yourself available to anyone and everyone, anytime. Have your smartphone tuned into your websites so you know exactly what is happening 24/7!
Specialize, And Be Unique
Be knowledgeable. Learn as much as you can about your chosen niche and market. Not only will you need to know your niche and market, if you have your own website. Be uniquely yourself. You are the only “you” in the world. People love someone who is genuine and/or unique, so be genuinely yourself. Don’t try to emulate other webmasters and marketers. Always be yourself and write your content in your own way. This way you will be recognized for your own style.
Provide Useful Information and Develop your Brand
Provide tons of useful and valuable information. If you show someone how to solve a big problem in their life, that person is going to be dedicated to you and your business. Not only that they will tell their friends and their friends will tell their friends and their word of mouth will carry on. Think outside the box when writing and always try to solve the main questions that people want answers to.
Develop a memorable brand. Your logo, company catch-phrase, and your personality need to be memorable to stand out from the crowd. Interact with the online community. Be present and approachable on social media, chat rooms, forums and elsewhere on the web. Ask questions, be inquisitive, and check out what others are offering so you can comment on what they have to offer. I have learned a thing or two while commenting on forums. Some things the members talk about I have never heard of. They can teach you many new and interesting things. I was in a forum the other day and found two good advertising websites to take a look at. So commenting online can not only be good for your business, but you can also learn from other’s experiences.
Stop publishing rubbish. Before you publish that blog post or social media update, ask yourself, “Is anyone going to get any value from this” If not, keep writing until you can honestly say your article will bring some sort of answer and value to your public.
Be Different From Your Competitors
Be controversial. Some of the most successful online and off-line advertisements were outrageous, controversial and thought-provoking. I know a few bloggers that “tell it like it is” and write with the attitude of “WYSIWYG” type blogs. (“what you see is what you get”). It’s mainly about being your honest self. Writing should be no different from talking face to face or on the phone. Don’t overdramatize your article or blog with big words no one knows the meaning of. KIS (keep it simple) so readers can understand and relate to your writing.
Do something different. If your main competitors are leading the way in a certain field, then you will have to lead the way in some other way to gain recognition. If a product they are offering is similar to one of your products and is in the same price range, drop your price lower. Do something different from your competitors and you will get noticed.
Shoutout to the world when something you have done goes right for you and you are proud of your achievements. Tell all your friends and family and get that word of mouth going.
Start a podcast. There are more than 1,000 blogs for every podcast online and do it regularly. Chances are, you will be one of the few business owners in your niche to produce a regularly scheduled podcast. Don’t forget about the videos. Try to do one video for every blog, to keep your competitors on their toes.
Get To Know Who The Big Guns Are In Your Niche
Contact Influencers in your niche. Ask them politely if they will link your articles to one of their websites. It doesn’t hurt to ask, your reputation won’t take a beating. In fact, you will be most probably be thought of as a go-getter rather than a nuisance.
There will be times when you want to just give in and shut everything out. There will be times when you hit brick walls and find it hard to climb over them. You will have setbacks and will get frustrated because you may not know how to do a certain thing. (coding for example) and have to give in to the added expense of outsourcing.
Fear not, it will pass. The properly tuned mindset is a great tool to overcome negativity. If you have the mindset you are going to fail then you probably will fail. If you have the mindset that it’s just too much trouble then you will give in and fail for sure. So a properly tuned mindset is the attitude you need to take so that you WILL NOT fail, that you will succeed and you will stand out from the crowd.
So what have we learned? That you really need to be bigger than life online. I wouldn’t say you need to be pushy more like persuasive. A never give in attitude. An attuned mindset to overcome fear and get on with it attitude. Yes, all of these things we need to be and more.
