Is Appen Legit? – A Work From Home Job Platform Reviewed

Welcome to my review – Is Appen Legit

Appen employs independent agents/contractors to do various tasks in return for money. In my review, I will let you know if Appen is a legit work from home program to join or not.

My goal as an online review and article writer is to research products, programs, and services to help you avoid get-rich-quick scams and find genuine-money making methods that actually work and the ones that don’t work.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to read my review and using your due diligence to do your own research into any kind of program like this that claims you can make money online.

It is also a good idea to be aware of scams and bogus programs that claim they can help you to make money online.

There is a good article here you can check out: How to tell if a website is safe and legitimate.

This is an independent review with my honest and open opinion. And mainly for informational purposes.

Please note, I am not a member or an affiliate for this program/product. This review has been researched with information and/or testimonials that are available online in the public domain. Any recommendations and/or conclusions are strictly opinions and may not apply to, or agree with, all persons or situations.

Tips for Getting Approved For Appen – As written by a Reddit user.

  1. Never Apply twice, work on 1st time, and try to complete the application in full with legit (true no fake) details.

  2. In your cv/resume that you will upload try to mention your social media profile (links/URL to your profile) facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, etc. (facebook and LinkedIn is a must, from my experience). If you don’t have facebook, just create a profile there, and mention it in your application and cv.

  3. In your cv/resume, try to include if you have done work anything related to IT or computers, that will help much, not that it is important, but that will give you an edge, and they look for IT, savvy people. (most remote jobs look for this).

  4. Always use an email that has your legal first name or last name in it  if you don’t have one, create it just for Appen, it’s free after all (Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc)

  5. Remember it’s One Person Per Household, so don’t go and ask all your siblings, mom and dad, living in the same house, sharing the same internet connection to sign up for the service.

  6. Some of the projects are mobile, so make sure you have a decent android or ios devices (don’t worry about the newest or having newest models, just a functioning one will do).

  7. Once you submit an application for the first time, be on the lookout for responses, sometimes, these emails may end up in your spam folder, so keep on checking there, and whitelist them, so next time, they drop into your inbox folder.

  8. Sometimes it takes even a month or more, to get a response from Appen on your project or any project you apply for to participate, so be patient, it depends on your locale, region and how much application they are getting and how much work coming in. Patience is the key to success. Don’t get discouraged.

  9. Don’t hesitate to contact Appen support, or directly contacting them from, if you have any issue, they usually reply back in a working day or two.

  10. You will get projects according to your locale/region, you applied for, so look out for projects by clicking projects tab (Appen Connect Dashboard) for new projects, and you can apply them from there. You will see the dashboard once you are approved.

  11. Raterlabs and Appen are the same, so if sometime, you get redirected to Raterlabs from Appen, don’t get confused.

  12. Most of the work/projects are pretty flexible (2-4 hrs/day), so it can be done as a side hustle, to cover expenses and more. Also, there are projects that are long term and will help you financially.

  13. Don’t get lazy, or think that you will be never caught if you miss few days of work, they review applicants internally after few months, and remove them if they are not putting in there required hours for the project.

  14. Be smart, it’s a good opportunity, as there are a lot of scam companies who don’t pay, so consider yourself lucky once you are approved.

  15. Appen pays using Payoneer (not PayPal), its a big US company the same as PayPal, they provide free ATM Debit Card, Online fund transfer facility to your bank account.

How Much Does Appen Pay?

The hourly rate at Appen all depends on which job you do. Some individuals have reported salaries in the range of $12-$14 per hour, depending on where you live.

Appen Reviews

When it boils down to individuals doing reviews, we as humans usually believe what we read. There is no way to validate the reviews I am about to show you, we just have to take their word for it.

When I did the research for Appen reviews I found 1.7K reviews on the Glassdoor Website.

I cannot show you all of them here in this post but below is a couple of screenshots of a positive review and a negative review.

I also found more reviews (9) on the Trustpilot Website.

And even more (438) on the Indeed Job Website.

And only (3) on the Sitejabber Website.

Is Appen Legit – Conclusion

Appen operates in 130 countries and employs up to 400,000 work-at-home contractors. (Wow, that is a lot of workers).

It’s only fair to say that with so many workers working as agents or contractors for Appen that you are going to get many negative reviews. It needs you as a potential worker to decide whether to believe them or not.

Since Appen has been operating for more than 20+ years I believe Appen to be a legit platform for work from home jobs.

But beware with so many workers using Appen for a work from home job that many of the jobs available may be saturated. You have to apply for the jobs available and who knows how many other users of Appen have applied also.  So in saying that it may be hard to actually get work with Appen.

How do I rate Appen?

Other Ways to Make Money From Home

There are many other ways to make money from home and online. The trouble with many of these other sites such as GPT (Get Paid To), Survey sites, etc. Is that they pay very little for a lot of work on your behalf.

To be really successful online you need to have your own business website. It could be anything as in a dropshipping website, an e-commerce store or affiliate marketing.

I chose affiliate marketing as it is a win-win situation for both the vendor and the affiliate.

But there is more to affiliate marketing than just promoting an affiliate link on your website. Firstly you need a website. Then you need to know how to get your affiliate links (no matter where you post them) to be seen.

This can be a little technical and you will for sure need to do some research and your homework on how to get your affiliate links seen and clicked on.

If you want free organic traffic from the search engines you will have to learn SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) techniques.

I discovered the best way to learn everything about affiliate marketing was to join an affiliate marketing training platform.
